Senuelo - Fishing BoatExperience the excitement of a fishing vacation you'll never forget! The waters off Costa Rica contain some of the hottest fishing spots for sailfish in the world. You'll also hook marlin, dorado, snapper, tuna, roosterfish, tarpon, jacks, snook, and wahoo. According to the International Game Fishing Association, Costa Rica holds 44 line class records, 17 fly rod records, and 18 all-tackle records.

Fishing boats chartered by Excitement Sport Fishing boast state-of-the-art equipment and safety gear. Many operators also include Snapperactivities for non-fishing tour members, such as snorkeling or diving.

Every tour is one-of-a-kind and takes into consideration the time of year and new or evolving events that we can schedule. For a sample itinerary of a recent guest, check out What an Experience. The best fishing time is October through May. During this time of year, it's not unusual to raise 10 to 20 or more sailfish daily. See Fishing Seasons for details about each month of the year.

The December 1999, Salt Water Sportsman pickedSail Fish the Top 20 Blue Marlin Hot Spots. Here's what they had to say about Costa Rica, which of course, made the list:

Costa Rica offers grand-slam potential, since sailfish, black marlin, and striped marlin can be found in the same waters.

Another Salt Water Sportsman article titled Holiday in Quepos
by Barry Gibson, says:

Sail Fish...Fishing here is about as straightforward, civilized, and uncomplicated as it gets

...it's a smooth 18- to 25-mile run west to the grounds as your skipper artfully dodges the big sea turtles basking on the surface.

...Even if you've never been sail-fishing you can get the hang of it quickly, as you'll likely have plenty of shots.

...The waters off Quepos are perfect for taking sails on fly, again because you should raise a good number of fish during the course of a day and because seas are normally calm and winds light.

...All in all, Quepos is an ideal spot to combine excellent light-tackle action — on smooth seas with top-shelf crews — with the chance to experience a "real life" section of Costa Rica's beautiful Pacific coast.
